Updated: Dec 16, 2020
Earlier in December, the Verein für Deutsche Schäferhunde (SV) e.V. communicated to the broader German Shepherd fraternity that a decision has been made to recognise pedigrees issued by non-FCI WUSV members on the provision that pedigree papers meet the criteria of the WUSV Breeding Program which was approved unanimously at the WUSV General Assembly Meeting in 2019.
This is one of the follow-on effects of the recent Dusseldorf Court Case between non-FCI WUSV clubs and FCI/VDH where the Court ruled that lack of such recognition would otherwise be in breach of the competition laws. Woo hoo!
This is great news for several non-FCI WUSV members who for years have operated as per the WUSV Breeding Mandate and issued GSD pedigrees accordingly.
What is the WUSV Breeding Program?
The requirements in terms of breeding German Shepherd Dogs is aimed at maintaining the breed specific characteristics and properties as defined by the Breed Standard as well as preservation of the breed basis with maximum diversity with respect to working dog properties and vitality in terms of health and control of inherited defects. The global WUSV Breed Harmonisation Program was first proposed to the WUSV General Assembly in 2016 and finalised at the September 9th 2019 WUSV General Assembly Meeting. The Program was effective from January 1st, 2020 but will not be enforced before January 1st, 2025.
Dogs used for breeding until the Rule is enforced are granted a guarantee of vested rights and may be used for breeding purposes up until January 1st, 2025.

How is the WUSV Breeding Program different from that of SV?
The key point to note is that the WUSV introduced THREE different types of GSD Pedigree Certificates: Basic, Advanced and Premium. This was introduced as not all WUSV clubs can breed to the highest standard (Premium).
In brief, the three types boil down as follows, but please take the time to study the actually WUSV Breeding Program.
Basic: Microchip/tattoe, DNA profiled, HD/ED scoring, 'Puppy-test', Show rating "G",
Advanced (in addition to the basic): +BH-VT, +AD, +IGP-ZTP (or SV-ZAP)
Premium (in addition to the basic): +BH-VT, +AD, +IGP-1 (or SV-ZAP, HGH, RH2), breed korung (incl. sleeve work).
